How to set up voice control for your Tesla

To control your Tesla by voice, install Vessla, sign in once through Tesla's official consent screen to link your car, then press the mic and speak a command like “lock the car”. Setup takes about two minutes and needs no extra hardware — just your phone and your Tesla account.

Before you start

You need a Tesla supported by Tesla's Fleet API (Model 3, Y, S or X) and the login for your own Tesla account. There's nothing to install in the car and no cable to connect — Vessla talks to your Tesla over its official developer API.

Step by step

  1. Install Vessla. Download Vessla from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android) and open it.
  2. Connect your Tesla account. Tap connect and sign in on Tesla's official consent screen. Vessla receives a secure, revocable token — never your Tesla password — and lists the cars on your account.
  3. Pick a default car and language. If you have more than one car, choose a default (you can still name another by voice). Set your voice language from the 12 supported.
  4. Press the mic and speak. Hold to talk or tap to latch, then say a command like “lock the car”. Your speech is transcribed on the device; only the resulting text command is sent on.
  5. Hear the result. The command is signed and sent to your car through Tesla's official protocol, and Vessla reads back a one-sentence confirmation.

How long does it take?

About two minutes. Most of that is the one-time Tesla sign-in; after that, every command is a single press and a spoken sentence.

Do I need to sign in every time?

No. You connect your Tesla account once. Vessla stores an encrypted, revocable token, so day to day you just open the app and speak. You can revoke that access from your Tesla account, or delete everything from inside the app, whenever you like.
